SGMC Patient Care Technicians Arnita Wilson and Hattie Murphy accept the September BEE Awards

South Georgia Medical Center honored Patient Care Technicians Arnita Wilson and Hattie Murphy with the September Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award. Wilson and Murphy were nominated by two of their fellow coworkers in the Women and Children’s department.

According to Wilson’s nomination, she was pulled from pediatrics to labor and delivery to assist on the unit. She was bringing a patient from the emergency room to labor and delivery when the patient’s water broke and the baby’s head delivered. Wilson was described as “calm in the midst of chaos.” Outside of that unique situation, her coworker also shares that she is eager to help without a complaint and always has a positive attitude.

Murphy’s nomination details how she goes above and beyond for all patients and staff on a daily basis. Her coworker shared examples such as getting meals for patients, helping them care for their babies, or even assisting with finding lost items. She was described as a hard worker with a great attitude who “strives for the best in all she does.”

Cherise Giddens, SGMC Vice President of Clinical Nursing, shared her appreciation for the two ladies’ hard work and commitment to providing extraordinary care to patients and their families.

Wilson and Murphy were presented with a BEE Award certificate in front of their peers and nursing leadership. They also received a BEE pin, balloons, a gift bag, and cookies to share with their team.

The relaunched BEE Award will be presented monthly and recognizes staff members who support the role of a nurse, which includes patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants. Nomination criteria includes compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills and knowledge.
