SGMC Loosens Visitation Restrictions and Re-Opens Main Entrance

Posted on: February 23rd, 2022

South Georgia Medical Center is adjusting its visitation guidelines due to the recent decline of COVID-19 cases.

Beginning February 24, 2022, SGMC will implement new visitation guidelines following the peak and subsequent recession of the COVID-19 omicron surge. The revised plan includes reinstating normal visitation for non-COVID patients, visitor self-screening, and the re-opening of the main hospital entrance.

All visitors will be required to wear a hospital-issued mask and self-screen prior to entry. By entering an SGMC facility, visitors confirm that they are not currently COVID-19 positive and do not have COVID-19 symptoms.

Alongside the loosened restrictions, SGMC will re-open its main entrance off of Pendleton Drive, which has been closed since the pandemic began in March 2020.

COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters continue to be the best tools for reducing the strain on healthcare systems and providers. Basic prevention measures should continue to be followed to help prevent further spread of COVID and mitigate outbreaks of infection, especially in public settings: wear a mask, physically distance, and wash your hands frequently with soap and water.

SGMC will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and remains ready to make adjustments as needed. Visitation guidelines are subject to change. For the most current information regarding visitation, testing, vaccinations, and hospitalizations, visit sgmc.org.
