South Georgia Medical Center recently presented Heather Poore, RN, with its first Safe Care Award which honors individuals who play a vital role in ensuring the health system’s unwavering commitment to safety and high reliability principles.

Poore was nominated by a provider who shared that Poore’s attention to detail and quick escalation of concerns greatly prevented a patient’s risk for complication post-surgery.

SGMC is currently in the process of becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO) which embraces a culture of safety and unwavering dedication to quality. The process encourages every member of the health system to become an active participant in the pursuit of reliability, valuing open dialogue about potential risks and concerns.

According to Scarlett Rivera, SGMC Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, “This is one of many examples where our frontline staff members demonstrate their commitment to safety and quality care. We look forward to being able to recognize our remarkable workforce with this new award. Heather is leading the way, and we are excited to shine a light on her efforts.”

To be considered for SGMC’s Safe Care Award, nominees should possess one or more of the following attributes: Exemplary Adherence to Safety Protocols, Proactive Hazard Identification and Reporting, Continuous Improvement Initiatives, Advocating for Safety Culture, and Mentoring and Knowledge Sharing.

Nominations can be submitted online at sgmc.org/recognition by patients or patients’ family members, colleagues, or managers/directors.
