SGMC President and CEO Ronald Dean, Health System Heroes Bobbie Brooks, RN, and Kayla Turner, RN, and Vice President of Clinical Nursing Cherise Giddens
South Georgia Medical Center recognized Bobbie Brooks, RN, and Kayla Turner, RN, as Health System Heroes at the October Board of Trustees meeting. The duo was honored for using high-reliability principles and identifying and driving process improvement to improve patient safety and quality.
Both Brooks and Turner have been with SGMC for eight years and currently serve as nurse educators for the medical and surgical floors. Over the years they have been instrumental in several process improvement initiatives, but their diligence and focus on patient safety as they worked through a no harm event earned them the distinct recognition of Health System Heroes.
According to Director of Nursing Clinical Resources Elizabeth Salien, “During the initial investigation, the issue was thought to be a simple knowledge deficit; however, Bobbie and Kayla determined the issue lied in programming. This attention to detail allowed the team to ensure effective resolution across the entire organization.”
SGMC is currently in the process of becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO) which embraces a culture of safety and unwavering dedication to quality. The process encourages every member of the health system to become an active participant in the pursuit of reliability, valuing open dialogue about potential risks and concerns.
