SGMC Health Welcomes First Baby of 2025

Posted on: January 1st, 2025
Kamari McCloud, SGMC Health’s first baby of 2025, was born at 12:25am on January 1.

SGMC Health proudly welcomed its first baby of 2025 in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The new year’s baby, Kamari McCloud, born to Matavia Johnson and Rakeem McCloud, was greeted with joy and celebration by the SGMC Health Women and Infants team. The family received a special care package, thoughtfully prepared by the SGMC Health Volunteer Auxiliary, affectionately known as the “Pink Ladies.”

Nurse Manager Sandi Wilson shared the team’s excitement, saying, “It is always a privilege to bring a new life into the world, and there’s something incredibly special about welcoming the first baby of the new year. It reminds us of the hope and joy that come with every new beginning. We are honored to be part of this family’s momentous day and to provide them with the extraordinary care that SGMC Health is known for.”

SGMC Health offers a unique birthing experience tailored to meet the individual needs of each mother through its full-service maternity center. With a team of experienced staff dedicated to the care of mothers and babies, SGMC Health provides comprehensive support before, during, and after delivery. Services include 24-hour coverage by obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatologists, as well as a lactation consultant, a nursing team, and a certified car seat safety technician. Additionally, the health system offers monthly parenting classes on epidurals, breastfeeding, and childbirth to ensure that expectant parents are well-prepared for their journey.

SGMC Health is deeply committed to advancing care for women and infants throughout the region. The Birthplace at SGMC Health is home to the area’s only Level IIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), equipped to care for premature and medically fragile infants, with 24/7 coverage by board-certified neonatologists. The hospital also hosts an OB hospitalist program and OB emergency department, ensuring that moms-to-be have immediate access to expert care at any time.

Innovative programs like AngelEye Health—secure video surveillance that connects families with their newborns—and options for cord blood banking and placenta donation reflect SGMC Health’s dedication to supporting families with cutting-edge technology and compassionate care.

Looking ahead, SGMC Health is building for the future with the construction of its Women & Infants Tower and Emergency Department, expected to open in late 2026. This $150 million investment will provide a state-of-the-art environment for specialized prenatal, neonatal, and postnatal care, ensuring families in the region have access to the highest quality services for generations to come.

With approximately 2,000 babies delivered annually at SGMC Health, this New Year’s Day marks the beginning of another year of bringing joy and hope to families across the region.
