SGMC Health honored Brett Richardson, RN, Patient Care Coordinator, as the February Health System Hero at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting. Richardson was recognized for being the ultimate team player, safety advocate, and leader in his role.
Richardson has been with the health system for over 9 years and serves both the Berrien and Lanier campuses. Additionally, he serves as an HRO Champion to promote and implement the principles of high reliability within the health system, advocating for safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
He was nominated by coworkers from various departments who each shared their own experiences of his value to the organization. One nomination described him as a “jack of all trades” who completes tasks “always with a huge smile and a kind word.” It shared how Richardson regularly fills shifts in the emergency department and takes on additional tasks such as staff education and supply management.
Audrey Bradford, Nurse Manager, shared how Richardson is a helping hand to all departments because he is knowledgeable and approachable.
“No matter how many things he has going on, he still makes time to chat with staff and involve them in any process changes occurring,” she says. “We always talk about wanting to make a difference in the lives of both our patients and our employees, and I believe Brett makes a difference in the lives of his community, coworkers, and patients.”
Richardson received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
