SGMC Health is pleased to welcome Michael Browning as its Director of Physical Security. Browning brings more than two decades of law enforcement experience and a strong background in public safety leadership to this critical role within the health system.
As Director of Physical Security, Browning will oversee the safety and security of SGMC Health’s campuses and facilities, ensuring a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. His extensive experience in law enforcement, investigations, and emergency response will enhance the system’s commitment to providing a safe healthcare setting.
Browning holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Valdosta State University (VSU) and a master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University. In 2024, he completed the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police’s Chief Executive Training Program. Additionally, he is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a credentialed Senior Law Enforcement Instructor in the state of Georgia, with specialized certifications in field training, emergency medical instruction, rapid response tactics, and firearms training.
His professional career spans 22 years, including roles as a Deputy Sheriff for Cook County, a Criminal Investigator for the Georgia Secretary of State’s Investigation Division, a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Division at VSU’s Department of Public Safety, and most recently, a Special Agent in Charge for the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Browning serves as an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at VSU and is an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
