SGMC Health Invests $7.8 Million in Advanced Bed Upgrades to Enhance Patient Care

Posted on: February 25th, 2025

Last week, SGMC Health began a phased installation of more than 300 new patient beds across its campuses. The $7.8 million investment in Centrella® Smart+ Hospital Beds underscores the system’s unwavering commitment to elevating patient safety and care while optimizing staff experience and efficiency.

The new “smart” beds, renowned for their state-of-the-art features, are equipped with advanced technology aimed at preventing patient falls and pressure injuries, while also offering effective patient monitoring capabilities. Such features are instrumental in creating a safer environment for patients and streamlining workflows for healthcare providers.

Cherise Giddens, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of SGMC Health, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This investment is a testament to our dedication to providing exceptional healthcare services. By integrating cutting-edge technology into our patient care environments, we aim to enhance the safety, comfort, and overall experience for our patients, while also supporting our staff with tools that promote efficiency and excellence in care delivery.”

This bed upgrade is a part of SGMC Health’s broader strategy to continuously improve equipment, technology, and infrastructure. It complements the ongoing $150 million main campus expansion, which includes the development of a new Women and Infants Tower, an Emergency and Trauma Center, and comprehensive campus redesigns to improve accessibility and patient experience.

SGMC Health is the most comprehensive health system serving South Georgia and North Florida. SGMC Health operates four hospitals across Lowndes, Berrien, and Lanier counties. The system also operates ambulance services, an extensive medical office network, a cancer center, hospice facility, retirement center, skilled nursing facility, imaging centers and urgent cares. Service lines of regional prominence include heart and vascular, stroke, trauma, cancer, surgery, and women and infants.
