SGMC Health is thrilled to announce its first-ever Touch-a-Truck event, a free, family-friendly experience designed for children of all ages. The event will take place on Saturday, March 22 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at SGMC Health Main located at 2409 N Patterson St. Families are invited to explore an exciting lineup of vehicles that keep the Valdosta and Lowndes County community moving, including ambulances, fire trucks, construction equipment, and more!
This hands-on event offers children the chance to climb inside their favorite vehicles, meet those who operate them, and learn about the important work they do every day. In addition to truck exploration, attendees can talk to first responders and other community heroes while learning about injury prevention, safety tips, and how these vehicles support SGMC Health and the surrounding community.
The event is made possible through partnerships with local agencies, community organizations, government entities, and businesses, bringing together an exciting variety of vehicles, such as garbage trucks, power trucks, police cars, and other specialty vehicles.
Touch-a-Truck comes at an exciting time for SGMC Health, as it is in the midst of a major campus expansion project. The $150-million initiative includes the construction of a state-of-the-art emergency room and Women and Infants’ Tower, which is set to open in late 2026. This project underscores SGMC Health’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access and services for families in South Georgia.
“The Touch-a-Truck event is a fun way for us to connect with the community while celebrating the vehicles and people that play such a vital role in our daily operations,” said Erika Bennett, Vice President of Marketing and Brand Experience. “As we look ahead to the completion of our new ER and Women and Infants’ Tower, this event highlights the teamwork and dedication it takes to keep our health system and community running smoothly.”
Participating organizations include SGMC Health EMS, Valdosta Fire Department, Lowndes County Fire Rescue, Hoar Construction, Georgia Power, Valdosta Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, and Valdosta Public Works. Businesses or organizations interested in bringing a vehicle may contact the marketing department at 229-433-4022.
Families are encouraged to mark their calendars for this engaging and fun event. For more information and to register, visit sgmc.org/touchatruck.
