SGMC Health President and CEO Ronald E. Dean, Health System Heroes Katie Gordon and Ivy Lindsey, and Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Cherise Giddens
SGMC Health recognized nurses Katie Gordon and Ivy Lindsey as the January Health System Heroes at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting. Gordon and Lindsey were honored for rendering aid to a patron during a medical emergency.
While out shopping, Gordon and Lindsey came upon a person needing medical attention. Without hesitation, they both jumped in to help. They were unable to find a pulse and began CPR while an automated external defibrillator (AED) was located within the business. Both Gordon and Lindsey continued to render lifesaving aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene. The patron was breathing and had regained a pulse upon EMS arrival.
“The quick actions and care provided by these ladies while they were off duty exemplify what it means to be a nurse,” shared Cherise Giddens, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. “Katie and Ivy were in the right place at the right time, and thanks to them, a life was saved.”
Gordon and Lindsey received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
