SGMC Health honored Harvey Miller, MD, with its biannual Excellence in Care Provider Award in January.
This award was developed by SGMC Health’s Physician Wellness Committee in the Fall of 2022 and highlights the role physicians play in providing compassionate care and clinical excellence to patients at SGMC Health.
According to Dr. Elizabeth Flail, who serves on the leadership team, SGMC Health reviewed more than 30 nominations for the award. Dr. Flail presented Dr. Miller with the award at the January meeting of the Board of Trustees, alongside the Medical Executive Committee.
“Dr. Miller is part of the foundation that built SGMC Health. His dedication to the community and hospital for the past 4 decades paved the way for future physicians like myself,” shared Dr. Flail. “But what truly sets him apart is his selfless service to others. His ability to go above and beyond is something we all strive to achieve in our career.”
Dr. Miller is the Chief Clinical Quality Director for SGMC Health’s Breast Center and has been instrumental to the success of the program. Dr. Miller was nominated by a patient who shared her personal experience.
“To say that Dr. Harvey Miller has shown the utmost compassion during this difficult time would be an understatement. His true caring concern and warm-heartedness really go above and beyond what is expected. He explains everything on a level that you can understand and appreciate, whether you are a medical professional or you have no medical background at all. Dr. Miller always makes a point to address the concerns of everyone in the room, and he will make sure to clarify until each person has a good understanding. Even with difficult news, we always leave his office feeling optimistic and very well-informed. He always gives us every option available and is super respectful and supportive of each health decision we make,” shared the patient.
Prior to joining SGMC Health’s Physician Network, Dr. Miller operated a well-respected surgical practice where he served the area as a general surgeon for more than 40 years.
