SGMC Health recognized Squire Dison with the June DAISY Award for extraordinary nursing. He was honored for his care and compassion for both the patient and their family members.
Dison was nominated by a coworker in Case Management for going above and beyond to assist a family member from out of the country in navigating the hospital.
The nomination reads, “Squire met her at the parking garage and walked her to her mother’s room so she would not get lost.” In addition, as the family member was leaving, Dison again escorted her to her destination. “He not only walked her to the exit but walked her to her car, as it was after dark,” shares the coworker.
“Squire is a shining example of the warm and friendly culture we expect at SGMC Health,” shared Cherise Giddens, Chief Nursing Officer. “His display of human kindness is a testament to his compassionate nursing.”
SGMC Health continues to ask patients and fellow employees to honor nurses they feel go above and beyond in their actions and care. Nominations are reviewed by a committee based on criteria that include compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, skills, and knowledge.
DAISY awards are presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him for being an “Extraordinary Nurse.” They also receive a beautiful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. A special floral arrangement of daisies was generously donated by The Flower Gallery, the local sponsor of SGMC Health’s DAISY Award.
