SGMC Health salutes its remarkable team members during National Hospital Week

During National Hospital Week, SGMC Health proudly reflects on a year of immense impact and dedication to the region. With its commitment to quality care and innovation, SGMC Health is shaping a healthier and more vibrant community.

In the heart of South Georgia, SGMC Health operates four hospitals and emergency rooms, complemented by 40 primary and specialty care offices.

“Our employees, physicians, and volunteers across the health system serve as an invaluable resource to the residents throughout the region, providing essential medical services and remarkable care when called on,” shared Ronald E. Dean, President and Chief Executive Officer of SGMC Health. In the past year alone, SGMC Health approached 700,000 patient encounters across the system, reflecting the depth of its impact on community health.

Health system statistics speak volumes about SGMC Health’s purpose: 2,000 babies welcomed into the world, 11,200 surgeries performed, and 99,000 emergency room visits attended to each year. Dean said, “Countless stories of healing, resilience, and compassion lie within these numbers: a true testament of the team’s dedication.”

Beyond delivery of medical care, SGMC Health’s influence extends across the community. Utilizing the economic multiplier from the Georgia Hospital Association’s annual economic impact reports, it is estimated that 10,300 jobs are tied to supporting the health system, resulting in $520 million in total household earnings locally. This yields an annual economic impact exceeding $1 billion to the region.

“Our team is truly humbled to serve in this vital role to support our communities’ health and prosperity. We understand that our success ultimately depends on the trust placed in us by our patients and community members, and for that, we are grateful,” expressed Dean.

As SGMC Health celebrates National Hospital Week, it does so with gratitude for its dedicated workforce, whose unwavering commitment to excellence drives the organization forward. With a legacy of service and a vision for the future, SGMC Health continues to be a pillar of healthcare excellence, enriching lives and strengthening communities.
