South Georgia Medical Center and the YMCA hosted a lunch and learn about the dangers of Stroke on Wednesday, September at the YMCA. Guest speaker, Dr. Brian Dawson, Neurologist, discussed the signs and symptoms of a stroke and talked about the new Stroke program at SGMC. Stroke is a leading cause of death in the U.S. behind heart disease and all forms of cancers combined. According to Dr. Dawson, a stroke is a brain attack. It occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked or bursts. This lunch and learn series was the kickoff to SGMC and the YMCA’s health education initiative.
