Pulmonary

SGMC Health’s Pulmonary Services department is dedicated to the diagnosis, education and treatment of patients with breathing disorders, such as asthma, emphysema and pneumonia. The department is staffed by certified, licensed and registered respiratory therapists who provide services, both inpatient and outpatient, under the direction of pulmonologists and/or physicians.

  • Mechanical ventilation (conventional and non-invasive)
  • CPAP
  • Airway management
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Arterial cannulation
  • Tracheal intubation
  • Blood gas analysis
  • Oxygen therapy
  • Bronchial hygiene therapy
  • Aerosolized medications
  • Oxygenation profiles
  • Pulse oximetry
  • End tidal CO2 monitoring

Special Tests and Procedures

Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm

  • Spirometry (with and without bronchodilators)
  • Disability testing
  • Lung volumes (plethysmography)
  • Diffusion capacity
  • Impulse oscillometry
  • Bronchial challenge testing (methacholine)
  • Indirect calorimetry
  • Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (simple and complex)
  • Oximetry trending
  • Sputum induction
  • pH/blood gas analysis
  • Bronchoscopy assistance

If I’m being treated on an outpatient basis and want to be checked by SGMC Health pulmonologists, where do I go for my procedure? Check-in at the Outpatient Center. After your paperwork is completed and you are registered, you can proceed to 4East – Pulmonary Lab, located on the fourth floor of the main hospital.
