Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

This procedure allows physicians to diagnose and treat problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas.

Utilizing both  x-rays and the endoscope, physicians are able to examine the area, take tissue samples, remove stones, and insert stents.

SGMC offers Spyglass technologies with the ERCP procedure allowing physicians to take a tissue sample with direct visualization, thereby avoiding some unnecessary surgeries.

An ERCP will require moderate sedation and a short recovery period. This procedure can take up to two hours.  You should expect to spend three to five hours in the Endoscopy department.
