The Emergency Department (ED) provides patients with a high level of care when they need it most. Equipped to handle almost every type of critical and emergency situation, the ED treats over 60,000 patients a year. The facility has 40 beds, all with state-of-the-art equipment. An on-site helipad provides rapid transfer of patients with life-threatening conditions.
The ED is a Certified Primary Stroke Center. SGMC Health also has the only open heart surgery program in the region. The Stroke Team and Cardiovascular Team treat many life-threatening emergencies right here in Valdosta.

When To Go
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms you should go to the nearest emergency room or call 911:
| Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness Changes in vision Confusion or changes in mental status Any sudden or severe pain Unexplained stupor, drowsiness or disorientation | Uncontrolled bleeding Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea Coughing or vomiting blood Difficulty speaking Shortness of breath Suicidal Feelings Unusual abdominal pain |
The ED treats patients dealing with serious injuries, life-threatening illnesses, and multiple system organ failures. For non-emergent injuries and minor illnesses visit SGMC Urgent Care, located at 4280 North Valdosta Road. Urgent Care is open daily from 9AM-7:45PM.
