The Hospital Authority of Valdosta Lowndes County recognized individuals as the November Hospital Heroes for their quick response to establish and staff a child care center for the children of employees working during Hurricane Irma. With only a 48 hour notice, the local YMCA set up a 24-hour emergency childcare program on South Georgia Medical Center’s main campus and operated for two days. During this time, 20 YMCA staff member cared for 31 children ages 0-12 years. SGMC’s Quality and Data Analyst Sharee Jordan stepped up to care for the teenagers requiring supervision. Those recognized at the meeting included Larry Tobey, President/CEO of the YMCA, Jackie McSwords, Childcare Director, Sandra Clark, SGMC Childcare Center Director, Randy Gaytan, YMCA PrimeTime Director and Sharee Jordan, Quality Data Analyst III/RN, SGMC.
