The South Georgia Medical Center Foundation honored Dr. Ed Mark and his wife Rhonda with a special thank you luncheon in recognition of a significant financial donation to the SGMC Foundation. Through their dedication to neurosurgery and the medical center, Dr. and Mrs. Mark committed financially to the success of the Dasher Memorial Heart Center and New Patient Tower project. In recognition of their gift to the SGMC Foundation, the fifth floor of the patient tower will be the Ed & Rhonda Mark Specialty Care Unit. The Marks have both been in the medical field for many years. Rhonda Mark has worked as a registered nurse at SGMC since 1984. Dr. Mark joined SGMC’s medical staff in 1995. Prior to joining SGMC, Dr. Mark practiced neurosurgery and served on the Medical College of Georgia faculty in Augusta since 1988. According to SGMC Foundation Director Elizabeth Vickers, “We greatly appreciate this generous gift. It will help ensure the highest quality of patient care for the people of Valdosta and the surrounding communities.” The SGMC Foundation, “Stories of Healing” campaign is not over although patients and staff are occupying the new Dasher Memorial Heart Center and patient tower. The Foundation is $900,000 away from achieving its $4.1 million goal.
