SGMC is seeking volunteers to enhance the hospital patient and visitor experience.

When you donate your time to support the SGMC Volunteer Auxiliary, either at one of our facilities or at an event, you’re becoming an important part of our mission to be the best health care resource for our community. We often hear from patients and families how grateful they are for our volunteers’ support.

We are always looking for energetic people to become volunteers. The availability of positions is usually greatest weekdays during business hours. Volunteers should be flexible with their time and willing to do a variety of tasks.  To make applying for volunteer opportunities as easy as possible, the entire process is online, click here. 

Some of the volunteer positions we offer include:

Entrance Greeters
(Mon-Fri, morning/afternoon) Duties include: Greeting, welcoming and thanking visitors for their visit; offering directions; opening doors (as needed). 

Elevator Greeters
(Mon-Fri, morning/afternoon) Duties include: Greeting; welcoming and thanking visitors for their visit; occupy elevator to assist with selecting correct floor; engaging patients and families in friendly conversation; Offering directions.

Auxiliary Desk
(Mon-Sun, 7a-11a/12p-4p) Duties include: Greeting; welcoming and thanking visitors for their visit; Flower delivery to all areas of the hospital; Patient mail delivery, Newspaper delivery to all areas of the hospital (7a shift); Assist Information Desk team with escorting patient families to surgery consult rooms; Ensure lobbies are clean and free of loose debris; call Housekeeping for substantial messes.

Dasher Heart Tower Info Desk
(Mon-Sun, 12p-4p) Duties include: Greeting; welcoming and thanking visitors for their visit; Offering directions. Offer patient information (when allowed) to guests visiting.

Parking Garage Greeting Desk
(Mon-Sun, 7a-11a/11a-4p) Duties include: Greeting; welcoming and thanking visitors for their visit; Engaging patients and families in friendly conversation; Offering directions.

Courtesy Cart Drivers
(Mon-Sun, 12p-4p) Duties Include: Driving golf carts within designated lot(s); Offer and provide pick up and drop off service for guests/patients;  Maintain golf carts cleanliness; Conduct monthly checks on carts; Report any safety concerns or issues with the carts.

Transport/Wheelchair Recovery
(Mon-Fri, 7a-11a/12p-4p) Duties Include: Locate and return wheelchairs. Ensure accessibility at all entrances of the main building; Offer a wheelchair ride; Maintain valid CPR certification

Gift Shop
(Mon-Sat, 7a-11a/12p-4p) Duties Include: Customer service and sales; Recover merchandise on the floor; Assist with annual inventory.

Main Cafeteria & Allspice Cafe
(Mon-Sun, 7a-11a/12p-4p) Duties Include: Customer service and sales; Maintain cleanliness of cafeteria common area(s); Restock food goods and supplies. 

Patient Care Areas
MedSurg Nursing Units (Mon-Sun, 24 hours)Sterile Processing (Mon-Fri, 6a-11a)OR (Mon-Fri, 6a-11a)Outpatient Surgery (Mon-Fri, 6a-11a)
