Stroke Program Receives GA Coverdell Champion Hospital of the Year for SECOND Consecutive Year

The Stroke Program at South Georgia Medical Center was recently named the GA Coverdell Champion Hospital of the Year (mid-sized hospital category) for the second consecutive year. To date, the Stroke Program is the most award-winning inpatient stroke program below Macon and the only hospital in south Georgia to have the prestigious Certificate of Distinction for Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.CEO Randy Sauls says, “We have developed our stroke program around the slogan, time lost is brain lost. Our extensive community education programs and rapid door-to-treatment times are saving countless lives and helping to preserve quality of life.”SGMC developed a multidisciplinary program that begins with Emergency Medical Services arrival at the scene of the emergency, and includes the Emergency Department, Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Nursing coming together under the leadership and expertise of Stroke Program Director, Neurohospitalist Brian Dawson, MD.  SGMC is pleased to announce that another neurologist, Jason Mallin, MD has joined its Stroke Program.
