Valdosta, GA –In a joint announcement, the Board of Trustees of the South Georgia Regional Library (SGRL) and the Board of Trustees of the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County, Georgia, d/b/a South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) revealed the completion of an agreement for the Hospital Authority to acquire the main library property located at 300 Woodrow Wilson Drive in Valdosta, Georgia once SGRL has begun operating a new main library facility.

Closing under the sales agreement and transfer of possession of the library property will not be completed until SGRL is fully functioning at its new location in the old Doctor’s Lab building located at 2906 Julia Drive in Valdosta, Georgia – expected in 2017. SGRL will keep all tangible personal property, including all library materials, currently housed in its present library facility. SGMC plans to use the additional 2.559 acres to improve SGMC campus access and will utilize the 32,298 square feet of the library building itself for a variety of non-clinical purposes.

The original library building was constructed in 1968 and underwent a major renovation in 1995. The recent growth of technology resources and the need for larger, usable space requires a more modern regional library for the community. The Sales Agreement has been approved by the Board of Trustees of both institutions and was executed by Vice Chairman E. Cameron Hickman on behalf of the Hospital Authority and by the Board Chairman Barry Barr on behalf of the South Georgia Regional Library Board. The purchase price for the property is $2
