Glycemic Management in the Inpatient Population

South Georgia Medical Center’s Glycemic Management program and the Valdosta State University College of Nursing cosponsored a program entitled Glycemic Management of the Inpatient Population on November 7th at Valdosta State University. Keynote speaker was Jennifer Lawrence, MD, a board certified endocrinologist and medical director of the SGMC Diabetes Management Center.

The day long program emphasized the importance of glucose control in the inpatient population. SGMC’s Diabetes Management Center staff was on hand to speak on a variety of topics within the area of glycemic management from basic pathophysiology and inpatient insulin management to transitioning home. Registered Nurses Martha Griffis and Katherine Harper assisted in the program as well as Registered Nurses/Certified Diabetes Educators Dawn Taylor, Norma Brown, and LeeAnn Agner.

Registered Dietitian Jodi Seabrook provided information on meal planning and medical nutritional therapy. Over 130 nurses, diabetes educators, and student nurses attended the program. SGMC and the Valdosta State University College of Nursing are long-time collaborators for quality continuing education on a broad variety of topics.
