David Retterbush Named Medical Director at SGMC Wound Healing Center

South Georgia Medical Center announces the appointment of David Retterbush, MD, FACS, FACG as the new medical director at the Wound Healing Center. In his new role, Dr. Retterbush will work closely with Wound Healing Center staff to provide the most current, evidence-based wound care to patients in our region.  Administratively, he will oversee the clinical education of the staff including quality improvement, assist with electronic medical record system implementation, help update policies and procedures and hold monthly meetings with WHC physicians and staff.“As a general surgeon, Dr. Retterbush has treated patients with non-healing wounds for years, both at the WHC and in his private practice,” said Randy Sauls, SGMC CEO.  “As a veteran member of our medical staff, he understands the complexities of healthcare and knows how to effectively work with others to achieve goals and objectives. We are very pleased Dr. Retterbush has joined our Wound Healing Center team.”SGMC’s Wound Healing Center provides a variety of treatment options including topical treatments, debridement of wounds, compression dressings and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Wounds cared for at the center include diabetic foot ulcers, non-healing surgical incisions, pressure ulcers, burns and arterial ulcers.  The specialized treatment of non-healing wounds reduces infection, amputation rates and hospitalizations.A second generation surgeon, Dr. Retterbush is Fellow of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He has practiced at SGMC since 1982.  In addition to his work at the Wound Healing Center, he actively participates with SGMC’s Tumor Board, Physician Credentials’ committee, Bylaws’ committee, the Medical Staff Support committee and the Oncology committee.  For more information on the WHC, call 229-249-5080.
