About Us

Philanthropy is more vital today than ever for our community’s health care. SGMC is a not-for-profit health system which means we are here to serve our community.  As the philanthropic support of our health system, SGMC Foundation benefits greatly from the generous support of our community through private donations.  SGMC Foundation is here to help ensure that our health system has the financial stability to secure healthier tomorrows for future generations.

Every patient who enters an SGMC facility is touched by our donors whose support makes it possible to innovate healthcare at SGMC. We work with donors to help them achieve their philanthropic goals and generate a better health future for our community.  Staff members are knowledgeable in the areas of planned giving, estate giving, corporate sponsorships and an assortment of other philanthropic vehicles to help donors accomplish their charitable objectives.

History

The SGMC Foundation was incorporated by the State of Georgia on January 13, 1978 for the purpose of providing support to or for the benefit of SGMC. The foresight of our founding members, Mr. Harley Langdale, Jr., Mr. James Beck and Mr. Ed G. Barham allows the SGMC Foundation to continue seeking charitable support which will ensure lasting quality health care.

Mission

Through the committees of the Foundation, we endeavor to:

  • Provide a means for increased participation, understanding and communication between the community and South Georgia Medical Center.
  • Plan, implement and support health-related service programs that will benefit the community.
  • Provide the means to generate needed donations to maintain, enhance and expand the healthcare services provided by South Georgia Medical Center.
Since its inception, the Foundation has raised more than $8.5 million for various hospital improvements and capital campaigns and has more than $3.5 million in assets. These donations support many different programs throughout the Medical Center’s facilities and services, including:
  • Dasher Memorial Heart Center
  • Pearlman Cancer Center
  • Langdale Hospice
