SGMC Health honored the Emergency Department team at its Berrien campus during the monthly Board of Directors meeting. The team of nurses was recognized for their extraordinary care, collaboration, and dedication during an especially busy night.

Honorees included Sarah Browning, Audrey Bradford, Autumn Sumner, Nikki Meeks, Emily Wilkerson, and Tiffany Thompson.

According to the nomination, on this particular evening, several patients arrived at the SGMC Health Berrien ER at once. Director of Nursing Selena Brady reached out to four off-duty nurses in an attempt to get additional clinical support. Without hesitation, each one replied, “I am on my way!” Brady shared, “It was remarkable to witness the teamwork, positivity, and encouragement displayed by the team as they treated patients suffering from chest pain, gunshot wounds, head trauma, and severe abdomen pain. Everyone pitched in to ensure that patients were well taken care of.”

SGMC Health President and CEO Ronald E. Dean commended the team, expressing the vital role they play in healthcare delivery to the area. “Rural hospitals are essential to communities having accessible emergency care and necessary healthcare services close to home,” Dean said. “This is a shining example of why it’s important to support and invest in their sustainability and success. We cannot thank the team enough for their dedication and commitment to serving our patients.”

The team received a standing ovation from those in attendance.

SGMC Health is on the cusp of completing a $15 million investment at the Berrien Campus. The new construction doubles the campus footprint with a new Emergency Department and main entrance. Expected to open to the public in the Fall of this year, the two-story addition will feature larger trauma and specialty care patient rooms and enhanced clinical and support space.

In addition to emergency services, SGMC Health Berrien provides medical care for inpatient and outpatient services, imaging including 3-D mammography, a 12-bed geriatric psychiatric unit, and a substance abuse center.  For more information, visit sgmc.org.
