SGMC Celebrates Women’s Health Week with Three Events

National Women’s Health Week is celebrated May 13 – 17 and South Georgia Medical Center is hosting a series of events to promote awareness of common health problems in women.Monday, May 13 is National Women’s Check-up Day and SGMC and our affiliate hospitals in Nashville and Lakeland will be hosting Latte-Dah Day.  From noon to 1 pm, free blood pressure screenings will be held at the Harvey’s Supermarket at 207 McPherson Street in Nashville, The Dogwood Café, 116 Thigpen Avenue in Lakeland and the Winn Dixie Supermarket, 1060 Lakes Boulevard in Lake Park.  Participants will receive a free latte with the screening (while supplies last).  High blood pressure is one of the leading killers of women and it is important to know if you are at risk!Tuesday, May 14, from 5 to 9 pm, a Mammos and More after-hours event will be held at the SGMC Women’s Imaging Center, 2409 N. Patterson Street. A physicians order is required, but self-pay patients will receive a special ½ price discount on mammograms.  Mini-massages, refreshments and goodie bags will also be available. To find out more or schedule an appointment during these special extended hours, call 229-293-3611.Thursday, May 16, from 5:30 to 7:30, a panel of gynecology experts will present a Women’s Health Week program at the Horse Creek Winery in Sparks, GA. This free program is presented by South Georgia Medical Center and features our affiliated OB/GYNs Dr. Alex Culbreth, Dr. Michael Sharon, Dr. Roy Swindle and Dr. Sam Taylor. The event will raise awareness of common women’s health problems and provide information on treatment options. The doctors will also answer questions from the audience. Covington’s of Valdosta will provide heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.  The grand door prize will be a $500 gift card from Steel’s Jewelry in Valdosta. The Horse Creek Winery is located at Exit 41 in Sparks, GA.
