Pearlman Cancer Center Receives CoC Outstanding Achievement Award

Posted on: March 23rd, 2017

The Pearlman Cancer Center at South Georgia Medical Center recently received the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award. The award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in demonstrating compliance with CoC standards and are committed to ensuring high quality cancer care. Pearlman is one of only two hospitals in Georgia to receive this recognition. Only 22 facilities received the recognition nationwide, representing approximately 12 percent of programs surveyed by the CoC July 1 – December 31, 2016. “These 22 cancer programs currently represent the highest quality of cancer care,” said CoC Chair Lawrence Shulman, MD, FACP. “Each of these facilities has committed itself to continuous quality assessment and improvement, and has proved that this approach yields the high quality cancer care that all of our patients should expect,” Dr. Shulman said.  SGMC has held continuous accreditation from the CoC since 1980, undergoing a rigorous voluntary on-site survey every three years to validate processes and procedures. Accreditation is granted only to those facilities that demonstrate the best in cancer diagnosis and treatment and are able to comply with established CoC standards. For more information, contact the Pearlman Cancer Center at 229-259-4600.
