The South Georgia Medical Center Foundation announces it has received its first million in funding toward the $4.1 million goal in its current “Stories of Healing” capital campaign for the construction of the new Dasher Heart Center and new patient tower. Mr. and Mrs. Joe V. Dasher Jr. have helped in reaching this milestone with their pledge of $250,000 cash and acknowledgment of an additional estate gift.

Foundation President James Lee Herndon said the ongoing commitment of Mr. and Mrs. Dasher to cardiac care has enabled the expansion of the hospital’s cardiology services and contributed to the emergence of SGMC as the premier healthcare facility of the region. This most recent pledge brings the Dashers’ cumulative personal gift to benefit the Dasher Heart Center to over $1.5 million since the inception of the original facility 11 years ago.

“The SGMC Foundation Board of Trustees and I want to express our appreciation to the Dashers for their continued support,” said Herndon. “Their commitment to South Georgia Medical Center and its Foundation stimulates enthusiasm and the spirit of involvement in our community. Their leadership serves as an example to us all.” SGMC Foundation Director Elizabeth Vickers said, “We are excited and encouraged by the progress of our campaign so far.

It is through the dedication of community leaders like the Dashers and our Foundation board, along with the $470,000 pledge from SGMC employees and the $150,000 gift from the Volunteer Auxiliary, that we continue to move forward in making this project a reality. The ‘Stories of Healing’ campaign will continue to reach out to individuals and community businesses and organizations for assistance and support.” For more information or to make a donation, contact the SGMC Foundation at (229) 333-1071 or on the web at www.sgmc.org/foundation
